Colour Trend-Watch: Beige is Back

By Therese Winberg

If you follow the big interior design magazines you’ll have noticed a quiet revolution taking place.

After a few years on the dark side, when the only wall colours worth photographing were deep slate grey or inky blue, the inevitable backswing has started.

For every trend, there’s an anti-trend and those glossy magazine pages are now adorned with rooms in beige and warm neutrals.

As ever, the surge started in fashion, with interiors hot on its heels to embrace relaxing mid-tones.

I’m already planning beige for my next apartment - yes, gasp - I’m thinking something similar to that café latte shade that everyone was so over at the end of the 90s.

The trick today is to paint the entire room, not just a single wall, 1999-style. Complement the caramel tones by adding accessories in organic materials such as rattan, ceramic and soft linen fabric for a fully updated look for 2018.
